Design Support

Solve Problems Before Production

During the design process, ATech provides consultation and support to ensure that the substantiation process is as smooth as possible.  This includes providing guidance as to material and hardware selection, and design and weight optimization.  The earlier we are involved in your project, the more we can do to help ensure a smooth substantiation process!

Standard Analysis

Substantiate Most Projects Using Classic Methods

Classic statics and rigid body hand analysis methods are used to substantiate less complex modifications and repairs, such as light cabinet installation and assembly, small antenna installations, and some fuselage penetrations.

Finite Element Analysis (FEA)

Substantiate Complex Modifications

Complex modifications, repairs, or major alterations involving non-negligible effects on primary or secondary aircraft structures are substantiated using Finite Element Analysis (FEA).  ATech uses FEA for linear static, nonlinear static, and nonlinear analyses of components manufactured from Isotropic, 2-D and 3-D Orthotropic, honeycomb sandwich, or composite laminate materials.  FEA is also used to perform dynamic analyses including normal modes, vibration, frequency response, and power spectral density analysis.

At ATech Aviation Consulting, we have over 20 years of experience working with a variety of aircraft modification programs.  This has led to the development of FEA standards and procedures that have been accepted for analysis by government and  regulatory agencies such as FAA, DoD, NASA, NOAA, EASA, JAA, TCCA, and several ODA's, and major manufacturers such as Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Cessna, Embraer, Gulfstream, Sikorski, and many others.

FEA Validation

Finite element analyses are validated through comparison of predicted stresses, deflections, or interface loads to theoretical results or test results.  The ATech standard is for the FEA results to be within the FAA specified margins.

Damage Tolerance Analysis (DTA)

Determine Inspection Intervals

A Damage Tolerance Analysis (DTA) can be performed if required for your project.  Damage tolerance uses a crack growth analysis to develop an inspection program that is then incorporated into the aircraft maintenance program.  This inspection program ensures that small cracks in the material will not grow undetected and lead to material failure due to cyclic loading.  ATech can provide guidance and answer any questions you may have concerning damage tolerance requirements.

Fatigue Analysis

Determine Service Life

A Fatigue Analysis can be performed if required for your project.  The fatigue analysis uses peak stresses and stress concentration factors to determine the number of cycles the part is able to withstand before it must be replaced.  ATech can provide guidance and answer any questions you may have concerning fatigue and service life requirements.

Return To Service

ATech provides design, substantiation, and certification of repairs on frames, stringers, wings, control surfaces, metal, and composite structures for gear up, bird strike, animal strike, other collisions, cracks, corrosion, dents, dings, and more.  We know how critical it is to have your aircraft ready to fly, so we work diligently to ensure that your repair design is completed as soon as possible.

Certification

Get Your Modification Approved

At ATech, we work with a network of FAA Designated Engineering Representatives (DER's) to provide FAA Form 8110-3 Statement of Compliance with Airworthiness Standards certification for your parts, modification projects, or repairs.  Our DER's specialize in FAA Part 21 (Parts Manufacturer Approval), 23 (Normal Category Airplanes), 25 (Transport Category Airplanes), 27 (Normal Category Rotorcraft) and 29 (Transport Category Rotorcraft), for parts, major alterations and repairs.  From drawing sign off through conformity inspection and beyond, rest assured that your project will be fully reviewed, approved, and FAA certified.

Customize Your Aircraft

ATech has extensive experience in interior design, customization, substantiation, and certification of interiors for aircraft ranging from light aircraft and rotorcraft to super jumbo jets.  We specialize in new interiors, interior modification, rearrangement, relocation, installation, and passenger arrangement (LOPA) for all 14 CFR Part 23, 25, 27, and 29 aircraft and rotorcraft.  We work hard to ensure that your interior modification is perfectly suited to your mission.
